Choosing Esra Bilgic aka Halima Sultan as Brand Ambassador is an Abuse to Local Artists

Published

on

Turkish actress Esra Belgic, who played the lead role in the Turkish drama serial Ertugrul Ghazi, has been appointed brand ambassador in Pakistan by various companies, which lead to a mixed trend among local artists.

Pakistan’s famous model and actress Zhalay Sarhadi has reacted strongly in this regard. During a program, she said that Esra Bilgic aka Halima Sultan is a great actress, no one criticizes her abilities. But Halima and the other actress who has been appointed as the brand ambassador here is a slap in our faces. Why are we borrowing outsiders and giving them jobs here? She further said that why people here are so afraid to create things themselves, why things cannot be created here?

It may be recalled that Esra Bilgic was first appointed as a brand ambassador by Pakistan Super League team Peshawar Zalmi, then by Q-Mobile and Pakistan’s largest mobile company Jazz, which was criticized by Pakistani artists. They said that giving work to foreign actors in the country is an abuse of local artists.

Fans are happy that Esra has become the brand ambassador of Q-Mobile, but on the other hand, the people of Pakistani showbiz are worried about this news.

Many Pakistani artists have also raised their voices against this. In this regard, actor Yasir Hussain posted a story on Instagram in which he wrote, “Don’t you think that the ambassador for a Pakistani brand should also be Pakistani?” He further wrote that neither India nor Turkey but Pakistan Zindabad.

Yasir Hussain’s story was also supported by actress Aiman Khan and actress Minal Khan.

It should be noted that Qmobile is the only electronics company in Pakistan that manufactures smartphones locally.

Even before this, Yasir Hussain voluntarily took the meaning of Esra’s tweet and wrote, “First she took our work and now our boys?” While some other artists also expressed happiness on Esra’s tweet.

Women around the world are encouraged to speak out against sexual harassment, and the meeto campaign, launched in October 2017, has encouraged women around the world to share their past stories with the world. In Pakistan, from Meesha Shafi to filmmaker Jami, Ayesha Omar is the newcomer to the campaign. Bold and modern Pakistani model and actress Ayesha Omar has revealed that she too has been sexually harassed in the industry for 15 years.

Many people will not admit this fact but the reality is just as bitter and disgusting. Bold and confident Ayesha Omar has also been sexually harassed in the industry for a long time by a man twice her age.

She made the revelation during an Instagram live session with Hollywood actress Rose McGowan, in which the two shared this aspect of their lives with their fans. Ayesha Omar said that she was a 23-year-old college girl who came into the industry, and after that, a very powerful man who was twice her age, kept harassing her.

It wasn’t a one-time event. It went on for years. I couldn’t solve it. I locked it in a box and said, ‘Well, this is happening in my life and I have to fight it.’

. In 2017, Rose McGowan decided to break the silence about Hollywood and one of the most powerful men in it, Harvey Weinstein. She decided to tell her story to the world. Did the world believe her? Not really. As is the case with most silence breakers. “Time” magazine, though recognised her as one of the Silence Breakers and their Person of the year, for speaking out about sexual harassment/assault. Soon after, several other actresses started sharing their stories of assault by the same monster. Her book “Brave” tells her story in her own voice. A singular voice that stands in a large arena full of women with similar stories of assault and rape. . In my eyes, Rose is one of the bravest women in the world today. I have watched several of her interviews and the way she articulates her feelings, emotions and thoughts is mesmerising. She hits the nail on the spot. Every single time. Rose is also an angry woman. A woman who allows herself to feel and feels no need to justify her emotions to anyone. Her fight is to allow all women in society to feel angry for what they have been through. For what they have been made to go through. Two years ago, I finally allowed myself to acknowledge and talk about my own sexual harassment story by a powerful monster, twice my age. When Rose agreed to go live with me, I felt I was dreaming. It was unreal. I thought non-stop about everything that I wanted to ask her, everything that I wanted to tell her about Pakistan. But she’s been asked everything and she’s answered everything…. that’s why I decided to chat with Rose about how she is doing right now, at this moment in her life, let the conversation flow freely…. and it did… it was real and honest, probably uncomfortable for some…. I did think of some solid questions to ask but never got around to them… they are all still floating in my head. We plan to go live again in a week, and this time go deeper into the various layers and constructs of societies all over the world. Would love for you all to join. Until next time folks! 🌹🧚‍♀️✨❤️ . . #ayeshaomar #rosemcgowan #metoo #feminism #feminist #womensupportingwomen #timesup #speakup #crazy #keepitreal #hereandnow

Ayesha Omar added that I did not want to share it with anyone. I have endured it for 15 years and finally, 2 years ago I talked about it. A friend of mine in the industry also suffered a similar situation like mine. Then they asked me, “what do you think this actress is telling the truth, is there really sexual harassment in the industry?” This was the first time I talked about it, I was asked if it happened to you. I said yes, I didn’t want to talk about it then. I’m doing it today. I haven’t named the culprit yet, but I’ve started talking about it.
