Young Ph.D Student Commits Suicide due to Harassment from Supervisor (#JusticeforNadiaAshraf)

Published

on

Stress, domestic issues, sexual harassment are issues that are causing many people to commit suicide these days. But would suicide in such circumstances be called suicide?

Although the person who creates these conditions should be called a murderer and such an incident should be considered as murder, but our thinking and values are bound by the law, and according to which suicide in any situation will be called suicide.

Nadia Ashraf, a student at Karachi University’s Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Research, committed suicide after being harassed by her Ph.D. supervisor, Dr. Iqbal Choudhary. After this incident, panic has spread among the students in Dr. Panjwani Center.

The country’s top authorities should take stern notice of this incident to find out the reasons why Nadia Ashraf, despite being a competent researcher, has not been able to complete her Ph.D. in the last 15 years. What were the reasons that Nadia Ashraf used to tell her close friends that “Dr. Iqbal Choudhary will not allow me to have a Ph.D. and I don’t know what he wants from me.”

These are the words that Nadia Ashraf uttered in her immediate circle before committing suicide. Nadia Ashraf’s close circle also says that Dr. Iqbal Choudhary had imposed his favorite faculty member, Dr. Atiya Al-Wahab, on Nadia to further annoy her, which made her very upset.

Nadia had also revealed that when she took a job in another research organization, Iqbal Choudhary also tried to terminate Nadia Ashraf’s job.

Nadia Ashraf rejoined the Panjwani Center, took an extension, and submitted her dissertation for Ph.D., but Iqbal Choudhary annoyed her further and asked her to take another 6-month extension. Nadia Ashraf took the extension again because she did not have the strength to compete with Dr. Iqbal Choudhary, the director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences at Karachi University for 17 years. As a result, Nadia Ashraf, a helpless girl living alone with her mother, embraced death.

Dr. Iqbal Choudhary does not confirm or deny these allegations, but the question remains as to why a promising student who was doing research on a disease such as cancer would commit suicide? And why would she commit suicide after more than 20 years of education?

After the death of Nadia Ashraf, a discussion broke out on social media in which Dr. Iqbal Choudhary is being held responsible for the incident and people are demanding justice.

Lahore High Court Issued Big Decision Regarding PMS Examination 2020 Date Sheet

Published

on

A few days ago, a petition was filed in the Lahore High Court regarding the Provincial Management Services (PMS) Exams in which it was stated that the PPSC wants to conduct the examination from 22 August, but due to COVID-19, the candidates have not been able to prepare properly and PPSC has provided very little time.

The petition also stated that all the bookshops and academies are closed since the beginning of the pandemic, due to which, the candidates did not get the relevant guidance and study materials.

The most important point raised in the petition was that candidates from far areas may face hosteling problems due to corona and may lose their chance of appearing in the exams.

The court today, after hearing both sides, rejected the petitioner’s plea and said in the judgment that the examinations would be held on time.
